MELANCHOLIA: SCULPTURAL VESSEL
Melancholia is a vessel born from the silence. It explores the moment where the dense, textured, eroded primordial reality begins to soften into a dream. The closed eyes - internal sight, observing inner metamorphosis.
Hand sculptured, coiled and textured ceramics fired to cone 10 (1280*C) in oxidation atmosphere to reach a fully vitrified body and “weathered, eroded, waxed” surface. The “skin” of “Melancholia” is a result of special chemical bonding between clay, engobes, glazes and overglazes, fired in multiple layers.
This work will not be replicated.
Dimensions: H40 x W26 cm. Mass about 3 kg.
Feature: it’s two part composition: the Head can be easily detached and set aside or staged as a separate sculptural detail, allowing the vessel to serve as a functional vase.
How to preserve this specific metamorphosis:
Cleaning : use a soft bristled brush to reach into pitted “pores” of the vessel. Avoid synthetic cloth. If the piece requires cleaning beyond dusting, use a dump cloth. Avoid all chemical detergents or abrasive materials, as these can alter surface.
Light sensitivity: while the high-fire stoneware is structurally permanent, extreme, direct UV light over years can subtly alter the surface of the vessel. Don’t forget that she is a creature of Shadow Gallery, preferring indirect light, just to show her “eroded” colours and textures.
Thermal stability: avoid rapid temperature fluctuations and thermal shocks.
Liquid content: this piece is technically water-safe due to its high-fire vitrification. However, to protect the longevity and the decorativeness, as well as to ensure ease of cleaning, we recommend using a glass insert if displaying fresh flowers with water.
Handling: always support vessel from the base. While handling, do not forget, that its a two parts piece (head its not fixed to the vessel). Avoid lifting by any decorative detail to ensure the structural integrity remains intact over time.
Authentication: Signed by the Artist; include a physical Certificate of Authenticity.
Shipping: International shipping available from Dublin, Ireland (DM via the Contact Form if shipping is required outside the Europe). Careful packing to protect delicate structures of the artifact is ensured.
Note: please allow up to 5 days for specialized packing and the other related preparations before dispatch
